If I Stay and Where She Wentreview

These two books are heart-rending. When I finished them I felt incredibly over-wrought. But sometimes you need that. CATHARSIS was needed and boy, was it there.
It's an incredibly memorable love story but so much more than that. It's about the girl who loses her entire family in a car crash. She is severely injured and her spirit has to make the choice, to stay with her boyfriend Adam in a world without her family in it or to join them in the After-Life.
It's heartbreaking. It's real. It's raw. It's beautiful

A great reason to read Bridget Jones's Diary

The best thing I liked about Bridget Jones was that she always made me laugh even when she was crying.
And of course it's loosely based on Pride and Prejudice.
Need I say more?

P.S The movie is fantabulous, too!

Zootopia : It's an amazing animated movie for adults

Zootopia is a movie that is a class apart. It is a must-watch for people of all ages. This movie takes a stand against prejudice and discrimination of all sorts and propagates equality without being a snooze-fest! It is the epitome of cuteness and comedy YET manages to make you think. Are we all as open-minded and liberal as we like to think we are?
The dialogues are very simple. But the messages they convey are deep, indeed.  The movie leaves you with a lot of food for thought. Not to mention there is an OVERLOAD of cuteness. It deserves a standing ovation. Disney has done us proud!!!

The synopsis would be.. well it's about a rabbit who wants to be a police officer, the first bunny to ever be one.
But is it really all about that?

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

RATING-****

Are you one of those people and starts reading a book and goes "I know exactly what is gonnahappen now?"
Because if you are, this is the book for you. You can't do that to this one
There are such unpredictable twists and turns in this fantastic paranormal romance which is set in a totally dystopian universe. It's about a girl whose touch..kills. Her parents and society in general has her locked up. She's labelled a threat to society. Most importantly to the Restablishment, which is basically Big Brother times horrid. She doesn't blame them. She agrees with them. She believes she's a monster, too. But is she? Or is she their saviour?

P.S This book is TRULY unpredictable, and it's sequels are awesome, too. I mean the real ones. I haven't read the little novellas.

Uninvited and Unleashed by Sophie Jordan

Rating ****

Rating ****

Uninvited by Sophie Jordan is a fantastic dystopian paranormal romance. it's sequel, Unleashed is as good or even better.
The book is about a young girl, Davy whose perfect life changes forever when she is diagnosed with Homicidal Tendency Syndrome (HTS).  It's the kill gene. Anyone with the syndrome is likely to commit heinous criminal acts. Davy is immediately branded as an outcast and soon after, shipped to a camp full of similar misfits. The one bright spot on the horizon is Sean, another outcast for the same reason. But can Sean trust him?More importantly, can she trust herself?

The sequel to this book is amazing as well. Very often the first book is comparable to the sequel but in this case Unleashed surpasses Uninvited! Happy reading!

Hafiz's beautiful words

Beautiful words by Hafiz, a Persian poet

London Has Fallen movie review

Rating - ***
It's definitely worth watching once. Not the best action/suspense/thriller. But definitely not the worst. With a star cast of Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckart and Morgan Freeman there isn't much related to acting that could go wrong. It's definitely fast-paced. You won't be bored. After a series of attacks hit London, Secret-service agent Mike has to put his life on the line and protect The President of the United States as they are chased throughout the devastated nation by terrorists who will stop at nothing to get them.

A heart-warming quote by Galileo

These words can brighten even the darkest day!

The Stephanie Plum series by Janet Ivanovich

Ever since I read One For The Money by Janet Evanovich, I have been absolutely hooked to the series. It revolves around a pretty bounty-hunter who has a loveable sidekick (Lula), a handsome boyfriend (Joe) and a gorgeous brooding guy who loves her from afar (Ranger). Although almost all the books in the series are similar, this series does not become boring. Whether Stephanie is enjoying a doughnut with Lula, a loveable ex-hooker, or chasing (or being chased by) criminals or having her car blown up, it’s juicy and it’s light and relaxing.
Sometimes life gets you down and you need a pick-me-up sort of a book and this series is one of the best for that purpose

I Capture The Castle by Dodie Smith

It is the story of the summer that changes a young girl’s life. A young girl find love and heartbreak in the summer of a growing up. A young girl gazes dreamily at the window of a castle-in-ruins.. a young woman gazes back at her.
Cassandra and her beautiful older sister Rose live with their quirky-yet-lovably family in a  castle almost in ruins. When two brothers, their handsome land-lords move in next door, everything changes forever.
Read I Capture The Castle, not just because of the story.. but the way it’s written.
“Perhaps if I make myself write I shall find out what is wrong with me.”
― Dodie Smith, I Capture the Castle

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

For lovers of paranormal romance, this is just about as good as it gets. Katy,a strong and quirky heroine moves to a new town, right next door to a hot and brooding alien, Damien.. who is of course.. an infuriating jerk. It’s fast-paced. It’s hilarious. And you can relate to the characters.
The sequels of the book don’t disappoint either and that’s a first!

Bridge of Spies

A lot of Oscar-nominated movies, in my opinion, end up being way too pretentious and/or depressing. The ones that win them..even more so. However, Bridge of Spies is an amazing movie. The fact that Tom Hanks acted in it and Steven Spielberg directed it is as much endorsement as a movie can possibly need..but this movie is really special.
It highlights the whole ‘one nations’s soldier is another nation’s spy’ thing AND manages to gently impress several forgotten yet poignant morals upon your mind.. something each one of us probably forgets..such as..
“It doesn’t matter what people think.. you know what you did”
And my favorite : “Well the boss isn’t always right.. but he’s always the boss
Amen to that.
You can replace the boss with any powerful/rich person.
And..my Mom..

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

Book Cover of An Ember in the Ashes

The story of an incredibly brave girl, Laia and a humane soldier, Elias in a dystopian world. The Empire is the worst possible sort of Big Brother. It’s intense. Captivating. Fast-paced, Brutal.
The kind of book you can’t put down. And if you have to put it down you eagerly await the time until you pick it back up.
Reading this book was kind of like watching an episode of Game of Thrones. Fans of the show will know exactly what means

A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith

SYNOPSIS
It is the coming-of-age story of Frances Nolan, who belongs to an impoverished yet self-sufficient Nolan Family. An alcoholic father and a mother who favours her son. They deal with incredible hardships yet manage to make the most out of the little pleasures of life. A simple and poignant tale about growing up in the poverty-stricken neighbourhood of Brooklyn during the 1900s.

How I feel about it: It’s real. It isn’t melodramatic and depressing. It’s simple and realistic and poignant and heartfelt. It’s a book that you savour. It makes every sip of coffee taste better

“People always think that happiness is a faraway thing,” thought Francie, “something complicated and hard to get. Yet, what little things can make it up; a place of shelter when it rains – a cup of strong hot coffee when you’re blue; for a man, a cigarette for contentment; a book to read when you’re alone – just to be with someone you love. Those things make happiness.”
― Betty Smith, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

Pride and Prejudice

Synopsis:Pride and Prejudice is essentially a love story complete with misunderstandings written in elegant and antiquated prose by Jane Austen. An ironic look at society’s attitude towards matrimony. A mother’s desperation to get her daughters married to ‘eligible bachelors’.Once Netherfield Park is let, the life of Elizabeth Bennet, the protagonist an her family changes forever.
My Review:Austen’s creations of Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy formed one of the most iconic couples of all time.In case you find the Georgian/old-fashioned style of writing tedious you might have trouble liking this book but otherwise there is nothing to dislike about this all-time favorite.
If you have lost your joy de vivre it’s very likely that you will find it somewhere in the middle of this book.
P.S The 1995 BBC adaptation of the movie is a MUST-WATCH as well! Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle do total justice to the characters of Darcy and Elizabeth.
